Short answer: yes, Verity is real, it’s free, and it runs on Minecraft Java. The actual project is called Verity JE, it lives on CurseForge and Modrinth, and it’s been downloaded roughly 160,000 times. It’s an authorized build of the Verity character from ThatMob’s video, made with ThatMob’s go-ahead.

So is it actually real?

Yeah. Verity JE is a public, listed project on both CurseForge and Modrinth - not a sketchy reupload. The project page says plainly that it’s an “official adaptation of the Verity property, created and published with explicit permission and contractual agreement from ThatMob.” Grab it from either of those two spots and you’ve got the genuine file. Verity is a small, glowing yellow sphere that trails behind you and talks. Think of it as a personal assistant that actually lives inside Minecraft - it runs on a local AI model (through Ollama, if you’re into the techy bit), so it can hold a real conversation, answer questions, and react to what you do. It’s a faithful recreation of the AI buddy from ThatMob’s video.

The catch - and the reason people file it under “horror” - is right there in the mod’s own blurb: “don’t get mean, he will get revenge.” Verity watches how you treat it. Treat it well and it’s your best friend. Treat it badly and… well, it remembers. The dread isn’t from jump scares; it’s from knowing something in your world is paying attention, learning, and holding a grudge.

Before you install:

• It’s Java only - Forge 1.20.1 or NeoForge 1.21.1. No Bedrock version exists.
• You need Ollama set up to run the AI on your own machine. A little extra setup, but it keeps every conversation private.
• Back up your worlds first. Seriously, back them up.

Why is everyone suddenly searching for Verity?

Verity blew up off the back of ThatMob’s video. People watched the AI companion do its thing - helpful at first, then decidedly less helpful - and immediately wanted to try it for themselves. That’s really the whole reason this site exists: to point you at the real download without landing you on some malware-stuffed fake.
